Today we will be in the library. Your bellwork is:
Type 1:Analyze the statement below. What does is mean, and do you agree or disagree and why?

STEP 2:  Click here, choose education as your goal and play Ayiti

STEP 3 A Play the game until you are successful or until you have tried at least 4 times/different ways.

STEP 3 B:  Please answer these Type II questions in complete sentences and double spaced.

Each question is worth 2 points.

1. What was the game about and how would you describe it to a friend?

2. Why would selecting education be a goal in Haiti?  Even in tough economical times why might an education be valuable?

3. What types of decisions did you have to make about the family members while playing the game and trying to achieve your objective?  How would human rights affect these decisions?

4. What strategies did you use? For example, did you combine work and school, or did you send everyone to work? Which worked? Which did not? Why do you think they did or did not work?

5. Why would/should parents choose to devote so much effort to sending their children to school? How does it pertain to human rights?

6. How do the situations and options in the game compare with those in the Kalamazoo community?

7. Why might access to education be a challenge in another country?

8. What factors would make it easier for the children in the game to gain access to education? What conditions could be changed and how? Do you think it’s easy for actual children in Haiti to obtain an education?

9. Extra Credit (1pt) – What happened in January 2010 in Haiti that could have further complicated this game?
